Aims and Objectives
Near Infrared (NIR) Spectroscopy is a mature technology used for the rapid identification and quality assessment of raw and finished materials delivered to a manufacturing facility. Many instrument companies can provide systems with fully compliant software packages to develop methods, but usually this is where most companies find difficulties, mainly due to lack of technical expertise within the company or regulatory uncertainty. Furthermore, most companies that use NIR have not yet realised the full potential that can be gained as there has been limited training facilities available in Australia to further educate industry.

This course provides an excellent grounding in the theory and application of NIR to raw materials identification and qualification, the development of simple methods for quantifying components in mixtures, aspects of representative sampling and it also provides an introduction to process trend analysis.

Topics include but are not restricted to:

  • An Introduction to NIR
  • Representative Sampling
  • Spectral Interpretation
  • Qualitative Analysis
  • Quantitative Analysis

Learning Outcomes

After completion of this course, the participant will be able to:

  • An understanding of the NIR region of the electromagnetic spectrum, instrumentation used and modes of spectral data collection.
  • An understanding of the importance of representative sampling for robust method development.
  • A fundamental knowledge of spectral interpretation, identification method and quantitative method development.

Who Should Attend

This course is ideal for product development and technical support personnel from companies planning to use, or using, NIR.
